19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since spring of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted some to question if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

He defended four early-game chances in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
